Survival of the fittest?

Darwin had this theory – SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST; You know, only the strongest survive while the weak don’t.
I often think this when I’m fishing… ‘Have I caught enough to survive if I were alongside Tom Hanks in Castaway?’ Granted, I do have plenty of reserves padding my waist that may see me through a few months of not eating…but still, I wonder: Would I be able to catch enough fish to feed my family if I were deserted on an island?
For some of the fish I catch, actually 90% of them, the only meal they could provide would be fishcakes. But I know that if I eat all the small fish, they won’t grow into big fish that breed and produce more fish for me to eat. To survive, I must be selective about the fish I keep and those I send back to the ocean with a kiss and a, “See you in a year”.
So, do only the strongest survive? Nope!
Only the tiny, fragile fish, not much bigger than a prawn, do. If a fish gets too big, chances of survival plummet. It’s dinner! In this case – the small and weak survive.
How amazing is nature, hey??
